Windows 11 Upgrade - Should you do it?

windows11

We've been getting a lot of questions about Windows 11 and whether or not you should upgrade. At this time, we think it's best to wait.

  • Microsoft is rolling out the opportunity to upgrade very slowly so there is a chance you won't be able to upgrade for some time.
  • Any system that is four years old or older will most likely not be able to upgrade without hardware improvements. (You'll need an Intel Core 8th-gen processor or newer, or an AMD Ryzen 2000 processor or newer.)
  • Microsoft is going to continue to support Windows 10 through 2025 and it should continue to receive updates throughout that time, so there is no rush to make the change.
  • Windows 11 is new and bugs are still being worked out. Microsoft already had to push out an update to address an issue October 12th.

The biggest difference between Windows 10 and Windows 11 is in design, but the two operating systems are very similar under the hood. Remember how different it was to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10?  Well Windows 11 displays things differently and will take some getting used to for you.  So if you don't want to relearn how to use your computer at this time, stick with Windows 10. There's no rush to make the change.

Of course, if you're curious to see if your system will be eligible for the upgrade, schedule a quick remote support session so we can take a look and let your know.  Schedule a session here.
